Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

When I started using Photoshop to creat my magazine my skills improved allot. An example would be that I'v learnt how to use filters and blending options to creat effects that improve the quality of my magazine.

I also learnt how to adjust my photos using Edit/Adjustments/ brightness and contrast etc.I learnt how to cut around objects/people using the lasso tools, an example of where I used this is on the magazine cover where i cut around the artist and apllyed it above the other layers. Photoshop allowed me to creat a layout and design with the use of fonts to make my magazine appeal to the audience. I was able to downloaad fonts that would attract my audience.

During the time i was creating my magazine the understanding of the software i used has improved im now ableto ceate a professional looking magazine using the software.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I used the computers, Apple Macs and my laptop co creat my magazine. I mainly used the computers at college during lessons to creat the majority of my work, and then used my laptop at home to edit my work to a finishing state.

I used a memory stick to transfer my work from one college computers to my laptop and back.

I learnt a few more techniques on Adobe Photoshop CS3 during the process of creating my magazine and during the editing of my photos.

I created a blog account using Blogger to post research and planning as well as my final magazine and evaluation.

I also used Flickr to upload the images for my magazineand the analise them using notes

During the process of creating my magazine I'v learnt a lot about technology . Before creating my magazine I'd never used Photobucket, Flickr or Blogger. I now feel confident in using all of these aplications and technolagy.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A media distribution institution such as interMedia Partners would be best to distribute my magazine “Vocal Tone”. The reason for this is although it already distributes popular music magazines such as “vibe” my magazine targets a much younger and versatile audience than these. This means that my magazine reaches a gap in the market. In addition to this the media institution interMedia Partners already distributes such well known music magazines, which means that they already have the experience needed to attract new and loyal consumers who might be interested in a new branch of music magazine to buy “Vocal Tone”. In addition to this the magazine would have online media form to maximise advertisement profits thus leaving a smaller amount of advertisement for the magazine to maximise the consumption of the magazine.

I’d considered “BAUER” to distribute my magazine because it publishes 308 magazines in 14 countries. The media institution distributes music magazines with a very similar target audience and genre. This would mean that it would be unlikely to distribute a magazine that competes with one of its successful magazines.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience chosen for my magazine is aged between 13 and 25, both male and female. The magazine is slightly pushed towards males more as the content within the magazine has more content that would attract males rather than females, but with this said there is also a small amount of content within the magazine that would attract females.

The typically audience of my magazine would often be found going to clubs as this would be a place to listen to music that would be read in my magazine. If they weren’t listening to music with their friends they would be found constantly plugged into their mp3/ ipod. The Mp3/ ipod would feature newer less established artist such as “Akon”, “Enimen” and “Burno mars”. The audience would often go to gigs and concerts or spending their free time looking for new artist online via a/my online magazine that would show new artists. They would leave their TV on a music channel all day 2 c if any new music comes out. Most of their money would be spent on new albums, magazines concerts and stylish clothing.

My magazine would use advertisement that would target my target audience. Clothing and bling/jewellery would be the main advertisement as the audience would want to have clothing similar to what artists in the magazine would have on them.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I have chosen to compare a photo of Nate from my magazine front cover with the front cover photo of Drake from “Vibe” magazine to explain how my magazine represents a particular social group.

Both “Nate” and “chriss” have a similar posture that makes them look dominant .Their facial expressions are very similar as both are looking straight towards the camera and are both wearing shades/sunglasses. They are also both wearing similar styled clothing, black shirt, jeans and bling (watch, chain/necklace). The backgrounds of both covers are dark, simple and straight forward even the lighting is similar. This is done to make the artist stand out from the background and shows the audience what to focus on. The Magazine represents a stylish young social group which is shown throughout the magazine. This is shown by the people featured in my magazine as they are average/normal looking people but have the same dressing and music style that the audience has.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

1- Masthead
For the masthead of my Magazine front cover i used the font "Impact" because I wanted it to stand out as if it was bold. The three main colours used where black, yellow and white. This was done because it follows the forms and conventions of existing Magazines mast heads. The magazine masthead that I've made is associated to magazine masthead such as "VIBE", In the sense that its bold , bright and has a darker background.

The the Mast head that i created:

Comparison with an existing Mast head from the magazine "VIBE":

I think that My magazine Fits the conventions of a real media product because it is thick and bold which tends to stand out infront of other magazines.

2- Mis-en-scene of images

I think the mis-en-scene of my images follow the codes and conventions of magazines. This is because, I used a conventional style commonly used with magazines such as "VIBE" and "XXL. My magazine uses the conventional style In an R&B and POP magazine, these tend to have a well known artist or a artist that has just started as the main focus. I've used the conventional mode of address that is used in the photos of R&B and POP magazines , this is looking directly at the camera.

3- Costumes and Props
The costumes and props used throughout “Vocal Tone” are conventional. In this is because the artists in “vocal tone” wore clothing that depicts the style of the typical R&B and POP style. The clothing style depicted is tight t shirt, baggy jeans and bling/jewellery. All of the items could be found in a real R&B/POP music magazine.

4 – People

The people featured in my magazine are conventional. This is because they’re around the same age of the target audience which is coomen through out magazines. Most magazines seen today that have a similar genre to my magazine tend to only show the main artist. This means that i have followed the convention by only showing the artist.

5- Title Font and Style

I created the title “Vocal Tone” by using the text tool with the font Impact. My title is conventional in the way that it has a large font size, bold, thick and stands out. I think that this works well because of its visual impact.

6- Written Content

The written content of my magazine follows the codes and conventions of a real music magazine. This is done by having similar questions that other magazines have. An example would be: What influenced you to start singing, what music do you listen to, what are the meanings of the songs etc. All of the topics that were mentioned and more could be found in a real music magazine aimed an audience between the ages 15-25. The open paragraph to the article is also a convention of a real music magazine.

7- Music Genre And How Your Magazine Suggest It

The main genre of my music magazine is a mix of R&B and POP. This is clearly shown throughout my magazine with the use of props and dressing styles. This is shown on the front cover and contents page of the magazine where artists of the genre R&B and POP are listed. The music genre is also shown with the use of colors yellow, black and white which are common colors that are seen in similar magazines as well as following the same style of mis-en-scene as other magazines and so follow the codes and conventions of a real magazine.

8 – Layout

My front cover follows the layout conventions of an R&B and POP magazine by having the masthead at the top of the page, a list just above the masthead and the barcode and website at the bottom left of the page. The layout of my magazine “Vocal Tone” is conventional. This is shown on the double page spread which shows an interview in columns beneath the title. Another way my double page spreads layout is conventional is that it has pull quotes placed between the columns of text and that the images are arranged around the text.

9 – Contents Page

My contents page follows the codes and conventions of existing music magazines this is shown by the layout of the pictures and contents description. My magazine content is linked with pictures with the use of page numbers which is a convention of a real music magazine. However my layout isn’t entirely conventional in the way that it has the written content on the right of the page instead of the left. This was done because I wanted to grab the attention of the audience by making them view the images of what’s in the magazine before having them reading what’s in the magazine
